The beach is a hard place to live
At human scale
Always at the water, you must bring water
Always under sun under wave under wind
Under the sand the hidden shells
The veined rocks decorate a planet’s skin
The worst fall into a desperate reverie
Colonists shipwrecked
Old men forgot they were explorers
The wave cries, the auctioneer cries
Gone is the easy liberality
The beach umbrella
The dream of America
Wake in cowardice in fear of escalation
Fear Phoenicians
Fear thugs who fear themselves
The thunder shrugs
I place stones in a ring from the glacial till
Travellers collected in passing as evening falls
The orchestra of wind prepares the dark
We will drink the stars’ black milk
